Outfit

A couple of weeks ago I went to see the musical Annie in Sydney City. As I was watching the production, it suddenly occurred to me that I have almost the exact same dress as Annie. Now I call this my Annie dress and I believe the resemblence is quite striking! This is one of my favourite every day dresses at the moment. It is yet another item from Modcloth and is called the Polite and Day Dress. I love the vibrant colour and of course the peter pan collar. I wish more clothes had peter pan collars. Fortunately I found the most perfectly matching pair of shoes in the wardrobe to wear with this dress. The bag is my latest addition to my wardrobe. I bought it at the Dangerfield clearance sale in the city last weekend. I'd wanted a bag like that for ages now. It is much more practical than my other union jack bag that I posted here which does not even fit my iphone.

Hills in Hollywood

Recently, during my search for bridesmaids dresses, I came across a website called Hills in Hollywood. My mum actually drew my attention to the site so all goes credit to her. It has the most beautiful, stunning and amazing collection of formal and evening dresses I have ever seen in my whole life. They are very unique and special and exceed all of the expectations I've ever had for a dress. I couldn't believe there were so many dresses that I loved in the one place. I went crazy over this site I loved it that much. I have found my new favourite ever dresses. Since I adore this site, I though I would share with you some of these incredible finds.

Without a doubt, these two are the most incredible dresses I've ever seen. I'd do almost anything to own one of these dresses and have a special event to wear it to.

Outfit

Today I decided to wear my Aqua Swing Cap Sleeve Dress from Forever New for the first time. In my opinion, the features of this dress are the fit and shape, the vibrant blue colour and the quality material. There's nothing quite like a dress with a bit of weight and structure to it. The exposed zip and lower back are also really cool. I desperately wanted to wear both this dress and these shoes today but at first I wasn't sure whether they matched. Then I realised they didn't necessarily need to match. As I continued creating my outfit and adding the bag, I realised that with a predominately black dress, pops of different colours can make an effective and stylish look. I'm pleased with how this outfit came together. This dress was absolutely perfect for me to attach my cat pin to. Unfortunately today was one of those days where my fringe just didn't look good and wouldn't sit right so I had to pin it back.

How have you all been lately? I have been very busy even though I am still on holidays. This is mainly because of the wedding preparations. We are trying to be organised now because when university starts again there will be much less time. We made some sample invitations, save the dates and place cards the other week which was fun. I also have a few cool ideas which could make our ceremony more uniquee and special. Lucikly I have many people around me who are helpful and supportive and really take the pressure off me in a number of areas.

I have also been busy because I was considering finding a part time job in the legal industry as I complete the final year of my law degree. At some point I am required to complete work experience to count towards my professional accreditation but I have decided to put this off for at least six months. Since I am completely disinterested in what I am studying at university and the types of employment I may potentially have in the future, I would rather delay the reality of the situation for as long as possible. Although I have never been interested in law, I always thought that this lack of interest didn't matter. For most of my time at university I believed that the prospect of actually finishing my degree and becoming a lawyer was so remote and far away that my lack of interest didn't matter. Now, with only one year of university to complete, the reality of the situation is difficult to avoid. The prospect of having to spend my entire working life in the legal industry is absolutely terrifying. I desperately wish that a miraculous series of events would happen and somehow I would become a fashion designer, professional tennis player, model, singer or professional ten pin bowler which is where my interests lie. Yes, my imagination is a little wild sometimes but I like that. In my own little fantasy world in my head, I can be anything I want to be.

Now I will share a totally random situation with you. The other day I went to apply my eyeliner, as I do everyday, and I couldn't get it to look right. I couldn't understand why given that it usually works and this time it wouldn't. I tried so many times using different techniques and I literally stood at the mirror for hours removing unsuccessful attempts at makeup and attempting to reapply the eyeliner. It was the most frustrating experience and for most of those hours I felt an extreme sense of panic come over me. You see I wanted to go out for the day but I absolutely would not leave the house without eyeliner. Others told me that I looked better without eyeliner anyway, that I don't need it and that everything would work out the next day but I didn't believe any of it. I was desperate for my eyeliner to work and I didn't feel comfortable without it. I also stayed up most of the night attempting eye makeup. I hate to even think about the damage I must have caused to my skin, especially the delicate area under my eyes, during this process. It totally ruined my day. However, it suddenly occured to me how pathetic and sad it was that I'd reached the point where I won't let anyone see me unless there is a black line under my eye. I don't even know how it got to this point. I get a huge amount of satisfaction from dressing up and wearing makeup everyday since it gives me something to look forward to and it makes me feel better about myself especially when other areas of my life are not going so well. I believe it is a way to mask some of my problems. But I am fine with this. If it works for me and the power of a pretty dress is so great for me, then I see this as a positive and I will continue as I have done. However, the eyeliner incident made me realise there is a point where it has gone too far. If I can't enjoy a day just because I don't have a black line under my eye, then something has to change. I'm certainly not going to stop wearing makeup everyday but I would like to see if I can go without eyeliner sometimes especially if I have a day where it just doesn't work. I want to be able to deal with the situation and get on with the day. This is a personal challenge I have set for myself to reduce my dependency on eyeliner.

Item of the Week 018

Today I am featuring my beautiful cat pin which I received for Christmas from Rydog. I was so excited to receive this unique and exquisite piece. It is from an antique store and is truly one of a kind. It features flawless craftsmanship with real emerald eyes, a ruby collar and pearls and a saphire on the body. It also reminds me of my first cat Puss since it bears many similarities in terms of appearance. I love this sentimental value. Also, my cat pin is a perfect way to add style and class to an outfit. I save it for special occassions and wear it with my pretty dresses. Typical outfits I'd wear my cat pin with are featured here and here. My cat pin is, without a doubt, one of the best gifts I have ever received.

Outfit

Today's outfit post is my entry into Bloggers Do It Better where Kristina has challenged us all to wear sequins. I love the idea of Bloggers Do It Better but I've only participated in one before which was the Colour Blocking Challenge that I posted here. When I saw the sequins challenge I knew I couldn't let this opportunity pass by because I absolutely adore sequins. Although I do have a black sequined dress I thought I would wear my sequined cardigan for this post because I've wanted to display it on my blog for ages but I never got around to it. My sequin cardigan is one of my DIY projects. I sewed all of the sequins on myself. I completed it during the winter holidays last year and it took me about two weeks. I love having such a unique item and I know I'll never find one that is exactly the same. I took inspiration from the sequin cardigans in Alannah Hill last season. It is the best feeling ever when I receive compliments on a cardigan that I have entirely customised myself.

I recently purchased these pink jeans after my only pair of jeans disappeared. I totally should have bought some coloured denim before! I very rarely wear jeans and one of the main reasons is because I believe they don't fit in with my very feminine style. So I think that pink jeans are perfect for me and are a girly take on a pair of jeans. I also love adding colour to an otherwise predominately black outfit. In terms of my shoes, they will probably be the subject of my next DIY project. I want to customise them with glitter.

New Years Day

Happy 2012! This is the first outfit that I wore in the new year. It took me an extremely long time and many outfit changes to actually decide what to wear for new years day. I had one of those days where nothing seemed to work outfit wise and I've also run out of new dresses which I have never worn before. I'm really going to struggle now I am on a clothes and shoes spending ban. I guess I'll have to find some way of becoming more creative with my clothes. In the end I was pleased with the outfit I chose for new years day. It features the Steal the Game Show Dress from Modcloth and my new Diana Ferrari bag which I bought in the after Christmas sales. I'm continually incorporating red accessories into my outfits lately just so I can use this bag.

This year, new years eve and day were quiet affairs. On new years eve I simply watched the fireworks on tv with family. This was a change from the eventful new years I've had for the last few years such as the Hunter Valley trip last year which I posted about here, here and here. On new years day Rydog and I went bowling with one of our friends from high school. Ten pin bowling is our latest obsession at the moment. I wish I could go bowling every single day as it is just so much fun. I scored 160 the other day which is my all time high score by far. I'm really pleased with that for an average person like myself who has never trained for bowling before. Rydog and I are thinking of making this a regularly weekly activity.

Christmas Day

This is the outfit that I wore on Christmas Day for family lunch and dinner. I received this dress for Christmas from my mother in law and it is one of my favourite presents ever and probably my favourite dress at the moment. I love the floral print and I especially love the shape and structure of the dress. These are features that I don't usually find in dresses. The little belt in the matching floral print is so sweet. I wish I had better pictures of it but I guess that opportunity will come eventually. I cannot wait to wear it again.

Little Julie enjoyed Christmas Day. It was her second Christmas. She received a brush, pet wipes and balls from her grandparents and a cat scratcher, cat wand a knitted blanket from her parents. Juliette was very generous and bought her parents gifts too. I received a beautiful dress and Rydog received some cologne. Next post I will show you my Christmas presents. My family were all very generous and I'm looking forward to posting my gifts.
