Outfit

Today's outfit incorporates a number of new pieces which I received for my birthday. The dress is the newest addition to my wardrobe and I used the excuse of it being my birthday to buy it. I've had my eye on this dress from Alannah Hill ever since it came out at least six months ago but the retail price was $400. I would never pay that for a dress. I waited for it to come on sale and it still wasn't discounted enough. Then it appeared to sell out and eventually disappear from the stores. Recently, while in the Alannah Hill store in Chatswood, I noticed there were a couple left, one being in my size, and there was more than 50% off the retail price. Wow! That was pretty exciting. As you can tell, I adore this shade of pale blue at the moment and the whole colour scheme is different from the myriad of floral pieces in my wardrobe. The cut of the dress is also different from what I usually wear. It's also a lovely soft flowing material too. The umbrella is a birthday gift which I received last weekend from my parents. It's from Kitten D'Amour; I think they wanted to buy me something from my favourite store which wasn't clothes (which is totally understandable!) I am amazed by this umbrella; it is so classy and adds a new dimension to the concept of umbrellas. It looks more like a parasol and part of an outfit. I actually thought all the umbrellas in Kitten D'Amour were paper parasols; I was surprised to see that a number of them are proper functioning umbrellas. I actually want it to rain at the moment so I can use it.

My spending is really out of control at the moment, it seems like every time I make plans to save money the spending becomes worse, and I am so sick of it. I spend to fill a significant void in my life, to deal with the problems of life and to feel relief from how depressed I feel every single day. There's nothing else which makes me feel better and my problems never seem to go away, year after year. But it has come to the point where even the spending will not make me feel better. In the last year, where I have spent the most, I've actually been the most miserable. A new dress no longer seems to make up for everything else I'm missing in my life. The spending is going to stop.

Beautiful outfit, lovely dress and parasol! This floral print and the colours look great on you dear! The florals have a bit of a Japanese touch I reckon. :)

Imogen, the dress is so beautiful on you... I really like the color and the umbrella is really sweet...

I know how you feel, we all have done things to cover the pain, fill the voids... things that ultimately don't make us happy. I have a post coming up this week that I wrote just about this.

Depression is difficult, I have been there and I go in and out of it... one of the things I understood was that I needed help... I could not handle it on my own, no matter how much I thought I could.

I hope you will find a way to feel better without spending but don't put yourself down, like I said, we all have our crutches, some of them are invisible... some are front and center... message me if you ever need to talk, I mean it... tweety_pie_36@hotmail.com

Lovely, a beautiful post. Dress, too, you are beautiful (and smart!) I spend a fair bit of money as well and what helped was getting some of my money taken straight out of my account. Also, I try really hard to organise my clothes etc so I can see them and wear them. I also do little displays of my bits and pieces to remind myself of what I have already. Xx

Pretty outfit, but I'm worried about you. Shopping seems to be a drug for you, one that's losing its potency. Like all of us, you need to find a genuine source of fulfillment in life. Easier said than done, I know, but essential to avoid the blues. I hope you find your bliss and that if you need assistance, you reach out for help. Good luck, buddy.

(((hugs)))) Imogen, as the others have said, we have all been there. When I was younger, I did the exact same thing...spending way above what I can afford to fill a void. I do agree with the comment above that the key is to find that one thing that will make you happy. I still get into a funk and shop, but I think, with getting older, you do get to that place where you find what makes you happy. XOXO
PS On a lighter note, you really do look lovely in this outfit.:)

i love your dress and you look beautiful in it! but i'm sad to hear how you're feeling. hope you'll find the strength to start feeling better, as well as to deal with the things that really are wrong instead of trying to fix the problems with shopping etc. i've only once had a short period of time when i went shopping every time i felt a little sad or frustrated with life, and obviously ended up with no money and none the more happier. feel better, and i'm always here if you need to talk, lovely! :-) xxx

This dress is such a lovely birthday present to yourself! Good luck with getting your spending under control. Taking the first step to curb it may be hard but it will be worth it and maybe if you can feel like you're in control of that it would make you feel better.

You look lovely, always beautiful! Well done for getting the dress, and yes, that price is huge, so sales are always welcome!

Oh Imogen, lovely! I am so sorry you feel depressed. I know that buying clothes is something I've done when depressed and the feeling of joy doesn't last, it becomes less so. I got to panic point with how much I owned! I've given up shopping for Lent and it has been really good, combined with the better weather.
I send you all the best wishes and will include you in my prayers. You look beautiful by the way. That dress is beautiful. xxx

That umbrella is beautiful, I would be wishing for rain too! Such a pretty dress as well, it's wonderful you could score it on such a great sale! :)

Good luck with changing your spending habits - shopping is fun, but you can always direct your time and energy to something else - maybe make some more videos now you are doing youtube? Share your shopping tips with others instead of shopping, hehe!

The dress is gorgeous on you dear. I also agree with many of the comments here, and as Shybiker said, hopefully you will find your bliss, whatever that is. It may take time. Perhaps, analyse your closet week by week taking on category at a time to see what you actually need and wear, then donate and/or sell the things that you don't use or need. I travel too much so, my spending has to be a minimum of what I can carry in my luggage.

That dress was meant to be yours - I love it when pieces we love seem to follow and find us eventually (and cost less :) )
Absolutely get the reasons behind those spendings - I had a period like this once, when I hated my job and used shopping to compensate. Never worked, though. Ended up with a few bits and pieces I hardly wore and a horrible feeling of frustration. So next time you are about to buy something, imagine the money you are going to spend (or even better - have it physically) and think what would you REALLY do if somebody offered you this cash or the thing you think you want to buy. :)

And don't forbid yourself from shopping - it's like dieting, the more restrictions you create, the more you want it.
