Outfit

ddfffdsIt was wonderful to have the opportunity to take some outfit pictures on the weekend because I've wanted to show you these pieces for awhile now. I also have a set of photos with my new light blue coat which I'll post soon. For now I'll leave you with a preview featuring the fabulous kitty cat print lining. As we all know I have a rather extensive cardigan collection (since I find Alannah Hill cardigans irresistible), but of all my cardigans this is probably the most unique. I've rarely seen anything so pretty, delicate and original. The sweet little ballerinas are beautiful, as are the exquisite buttons. I like to think the rest of my outfit displays subtle elements of the ballerina theme through my signature hairstyle and my skater skirt. In accordance with my recent love for both yellow and duck egg blue, I thought it would be fun to style this cardigan in a way which brings out those colours. My outfit seemed completely transformed when I highlighted the yellow by wearing these amazing heels. They have proven to be one of the most popular items in my wardrobe, ever since my sister bought them for me last Christmas (posted here). My lovely earrings which I received courtesy of Spark Jewelry complement my cardigan. I'm very happy with these statement earrings and I intend to wear them on multiple occasions. I'll probably wear this outfit, in its entirety, to work on Friday. I'm finding that my wardrobe fits so well with te workplace; and if there is ever an outfit which excessively pushes the boundaries, I'll save it for casual Fridays.

Work is going well. It has changed my whole life in the best possible way. It's provided me with positivity and life direction, and self belief that I've so desperately been lacking for many years. I'm so lucky to have found this particular job: I never expected to like it this much. Even though a life involving work, travel and sleep is exhausting, it is all worth it. There is still a lot to learn but this is the most motivated I've felt for years. I've never been more grateful for an opportunity in my entire life; it means the world to me. I'll write about my job more in up coming posts, but for now I must have some sleep. Goodnight all!

Outfit

1000726_10151492304575950_1873129762_nMy Review floral 'picnic' dress is another recent purchase from the end of season sale; which I must say was a pretty incredible sale with many pieces discounted to 65-70% off the original retail price. By the time this dress was discounted (and I had a $25 Review gift voucher), it cost only $50 which is simply incredible given the top quality of Review dresses. It will be great for summer since it is sleeveless, has a lovely structured shape and features the sweetest cutout back. I love the bright floral pattern; it's becoming one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe. I've worn it to work with a black cardigan and black flats, and these photos show the way I've worn it on the weekends. I also can't wait for spring because I'll wear my lighter weight yellow cardigan which I posted here with my amazing yellow heels which I posted here. There are so many colourful flowers that the possibilities for accessorising are endless. As for my shoes, I love the colour and ruffles! Everyone needs a pair of pink flats! I had a random picture from my instagram account of these shoes so I thought it was relevant to include it in this post. Thanks to so many of you who reminded me that my blue coat was a worthwhile purchase, somewhat reminiscent of an investment.

Thank you for your comments on my post here about work; I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and having an interest in my life. It's great to have so many friends that understand. The good news is that I've finished my temporary job at the law firm so I can just focus on the one job. But the pressure is on; I really want to make a career from my investment management job. I'll write more about it in time. Here's to new beginnings. I've received a few comments about my dedication to blogging in combination with working full time now. I'm going to do my very best to keep up with it. This year, while I was unemployed for months, blogging was one of the only aspects that kept me going; when I felt isolated from the world and like my life was pointless, I committed myself to blogging even more than ever. It's always been a significant part of my life but during those months I made it even more of a project and purpose for my life. Thanks for helping me through that time; I'll make sure I stay around!

Item of the Week 032

UntitlllllllllllledRecently I was a very very naughty girl and bought a rather expensive item- the Alannah Hill 'Secret of Secrets Coat' which I wrote about here. Ever since I posted my winter coats wishlist, I've been even more fixated on this item; although I initially preferred the pink coat from this year's Alannah Hill collection, the overwhelming amount of comments I received on that post which favoured the 'Secret of Secrets' coat made me changed my mind. I wasn't intending to buy it (isn't that always the case?!) because I've acquire a few too many new coats in recent times; always justifying this by the fact that I'll need them for the early mornings in the city (not too sure how many times that constitutes a valid excuse). While browsing the Alannah Hill website; during the brief period in which there were 50% off coats and jackets, the Secret of Secrets Coat somehow made its way into my shopping cart and then days later it arrived at my apartment...oh dear! It's even more stunning in person; definitely one of the most gorgeous items I've ever owned. I'm sure it comes as no surprise, after all my recent posts, that I'm drawn to the colour. I adore the oversized collar, the stunning buttons and the gorgeous detailing. The shape is so unique and girly. It's also predominately wool, with some cashmere composition, so its warm, comfortable and soft to wear. What could be better than the kitty cat lining?

Outfit

Over the last couple of weeks my life has changed dramatically because I've joined the workforce. I'm currently working two jobs; three days a week as a temporary office administrator and paralegal (I'm replacing an employee who is on annual leave), and two days a week in the investment management department of a large organisation. It takes some getting used to with the long days, structured hours and routine, lengthy bus trips into the city and actually being awake in the mornings (I was used to sleeping until midday most days for the five years I was at university). But work is certainly better than the alternatives of being a student or experiencing unemployment; the opportunity to build confidence in the workplace and feel as though I'm being productive and undertaking worthwhile activities, outweighs the anxiety I still feel about such a new environment. Also the concept of actually being paid is great (obviously!). To think that as a student I completed much more boring tasks and often put in longer hours for no remuneration makes any paid employment seem like such a bonus. The workforce really changes the way I look at the world. It makes me value small aspects of life much more; for example, I love lazy days at home right now whereas previously I would have been so bored. That's not to say I love everything about this lifestyle because I'm still getting used to it. I am continually exhausted; the commuting is really tiring me out. I also feel rather lonely being away in the big city for so much of the week; I'm still new so I'm yet to make friends, although in saying this I do feel more connected with the world compared to when I was unemployed.  I also have much less time for blogging. I am so tired that I can only write posts on the weekends, and I get home after dark so weekday outfit pictures never happen anymore. However, since I spend almost 10 hours a week on buses, I use the time productively to read other blogs and reply to comments. I often do the same during lunch breaks. It's a little treat I have to look forward to at certain intervals of the day. When I feel lonely, I simply go to my phone and you, my wonderful friends, are with me helping me through this transition phase of my life. It makes such a difference. I love starting my day replying to comments on the bus on my way to work; it's a positive way to ease myself into the day. I'll have a lot more to say about work in my future posts.

I've had a few request to show you outfits I wear to work. For the months leding up to my employment I often wondered how this would work out since my love for bold patterns and bright colours doesn't traditionally align with the fact that I have degrees in law and commerce- accounting. I've been determined to incorporate my usual style as much as possible because let's face it; dressing up in exciting outfits increases my motivation to go to work! When in doubt I tend to wear my usual outfits but in darker colour scheme. The outfit I posted here ; is a typical example (although I'd usually wear a smaller hair accessory). See here and here (minus the fan clutch bag and the butterfly hair clip) for other outfits I've worn to work. In saying that, I started my employment with absolutely no "traditional" work clothes; I didn't even have a pair of plain black heels. Therefore, I have purchased a couple of items just for work in case there are days where I need to look particularly professional and to potentially counteract days where I do excessively stretch the dress code. This is one such outfit, featuring my new dress from Review.  The peter pan collar, the contrasting black and white; I am so in love with this dress. It was such a lucky coincidence that I owned shoes that perfectly match this dress (they've been such versatile shoes over the years). I also purchased this Guess bag which is exciting because it is my first one ever. Purchasing this bag was a necessity in my option and I didn't even have one professional looking bag; I'll be getting so much use out of it too.  Overall I've been pleasantly surprised; my outfits are much more suited to the work place than I initially thought.

The Beauty Blogger Tag

The other day I was tagged by Pooja Mittal from 'Being Beautiful and Pretty' to complete the Beauty Blogger Tag. I am very honoured; I rarely post about beauty products. I believe my knowledge in this area is somewhat minimal; I know many of you are much better than I am when it comes to beauty routines. However, I thought this would be a great opportunity to address beauty products and, as well as answer the questions forwarded to me, I'll show you my daily makeup routine.

I'll start with the tag:
1). State that this tag was created by 'The Beau Bow'
2). Some some more beauty bloggers
3). Title this as I've done to show the contents of the tag
4). Answer the questions

17583_10151475867845950_1510423045_n
Q). Name the beauty routine you barely do.
I'd probably say toning and mousturising. I often forget or run out of time; other times I am too tired and become lazy so I just skip it. I really need to work on that.

Q). Is washing your makeup brushes something you do regularly?
Unfortunately not because I often forget. However, I do have a large quantity of makeup brushes (I started using a new set recently) so finding a clean one isn't a problem. This question totally reminds me to wash my makeup brushes; I bet I'll end up doing it later today.

Q). How long will you last with chipped nail varnish?
This is a situation which annoys me greatly so probably not very long. When I notice chipped nail polish I'll fix it at the earliest possible convenience.

Q).  How long do you put off buying/replacing a beauty or a nail polish product even if you need it (ie top coat, foundation etc)?
It depends on the nature of the product. For example, the most important items to me are red lipstick, eyeliner and mascara. If I'm without either one of these products, I'll go to any lengths to replace them as soon as possible. If its foundation I could wait a couple of weeks because I don't think my skin looks too bad without it. In terms of nail polish I'd even wait months because I have so many alternatives; the likelihood of there being entirely without nail polish is extremely slim.

Q). What is your worst beauty habit?
I'd definitely say not drinking enough water; continually choosing coke zero over water. I really need to change this.

1000985_10151475737240950_97053llllllll1103_nQ). Name something non-beauty related you put off doing all the time?
I can't think of one thing specificly but that's because the true answer would be absolutely everything. I am fantastic and very experienced at procrastination.

Q). When going out somewhere do you leave getting ready to the last minute or not?
No. I always leave adequate time to get ready. Since dressing up is such an enjoyable experience for me, I like to make the most out of it and look the best I possibly can.. I'm fairly quick at hair and makeup (since I have the same style every day ) so choosing an outfit is the activity which potentially takes the longest amount of time. Although, this also depends; sometimes I instantly know what to wear and other days I'll have to try on like a million outfits before getting it right. Aren't we all like that?

Q). Can you submit to spending bans?
Absolutely not! In fact, I can't think of anything in the whole world that I've been worse at in recent times than committing to spending bans. Each time I attempt to implement a spending ban, I end up spending more than I would usually which is simply ridiculous. I think this is because, in a round about way, I'm actually thinking about the whole concept of spending more than I would in usual circumstances.

Q). How organised is your makeup and nail polish collection?
My nail polish collection is rather organised; I have them all stored in a pretty box. As for my makeup, it's not particularly organised and could be much better sorted; I'd either find it in the handbag I used last or one of the draws in the bathroom. I really want to find an exciting and stylish way to store my makeup. I'd found some inspiration from other bloggers in recent times. It will be one of my next projects.
944515_10151475730105950_526900467_n
Q). What is  the longest time you have gone without writing a blog post?
Not particularly long. These days I wouldn't go for more than five days without posting. As an estimate, I'd say the longest ever time would be about  two weeks.

Now for my daily makeup routine. My daily makeup is anything but natural; I do tend to wear a lot of makeup every day. I use:
-Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor in red
-Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in black ink with Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush
-Natio Long Lasting Lip Liner in scarlett
-Maybelline The Falsies Volume Express in black
-Clinique Almost Powder Makeup in fair
-Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadow Trio in Crown Jewels

I'm tagging anyone who wants to do this fun post.

Outfit

While my family was away last week I was lucky enough to have the Fiat, which first made an appearance on my blog here when I participated in a blog collaboration with the girls from 'The Polished Edge.' This is my dream car, I am obsessed with it; the colour (especially since it's my favourite colour of this season as documented here), size and retro elements make it so perfect! I simply couldn't resist the opportunity to dress up in blue and take some pictures with the Fiat. It was great fun and it's even more exciting to drive this car when I match it. This duck egg blue cardigan is certainly one of my most worn pieces this winter; I've also worn it here and here (it's so versatile it even assisted me in looking like Snow White). In fact I seem to talk excessively about duck egg blue on my blog these days. There are so many different looks I can create with it but, for ages, monochrome is an idea I've wanted to try. I'm drawn to this style right now and I think it would be fun to try it in other colours too (although I'm not always going to have a cute car to pair with my look!). This skirt is an item I haven't had too much wear out of in recent times. There's no specific reason except that I sometimes forget about items I've had for a long time; anyone remember it from last year which I posted here?  It's great to rediscover pieces in my own wardrobe. I also like it because I don't have many block coloured skirts and they are always so hard to find in the shops. Speaking of rediscovering items, this is the first time I've ever worn these earrings. I've had them for at least a year, forgetting until today that I even owned them. Isn't it the best when this happens? I wish it occurred more often and I could find a cat print dress with a peter pan collar in my apartment (unfortunately I don't like my chances on that happening!) As for the rest of my outfit, I've already written about so see my previous posts.

Note: the Fiat is not mine

Latest Obsession: Heart Print

There are a few prints which I often say should exist more; cat print, heart print, star print and unicorn print are just a few examples. Today I thought I'd focus on heart print; I love everything heart related from heart cut outs to heart shaped sunglasses to heart themed home wares. It is such an incredibly fun and adorable print. I know that heart cut out dresses made an appearance some time ago but it is heart printed dresses that I believe are the most difficult to find. In contrast heart shaped sunglasses actually seem to be frequently available and I must get myself a pair! Despite the overall lack of heart printed items in the shops, I looked through my wardrobe and realised that at least I have a few heart print items, more than I initially thought. I posted my heart cut out dress here and my heart print cardigan here. Right now I feel inspired to wear these pieces again and the other heart print items which I am yet to show on my blog. I just remembered that I had a go at one of those DIY wildfox couture jumpers awhile ago too. I also bought heart shaped picture frames for our apartment which I've been planning to show you for awhile now. More heart print will be making its way to my blog soon.
