Monthly Beauty Favourites- December 2014

Hi everyone. I've just created my very first youtube video which you can see here. When I mentioned in my last post that I wanted to start a youtube channel I never expected that I'd actually start creating it that weekend. I also was surprised by how many of you said you'd watch my videos. Thank you (and I hope you don't change your mind after you actually see them). It's a big deal to put my first video on the Internet; I've thought about it for so many months but never thought I could actually do it. I still think my video is very basic and wish I was much better at appearing in front of the camera! I cannot believe how much work it takes to create a video. There are so many small aspects to consider such as the background of the video, what to wear and whether my hair looks acceptable on the camera.  I downloaded some video editing software and I've only used the very basic features but it takes an incredible amount of time. I'd say it's probably taken around eight hours for me to edit the video. I've become so involved in  it, there just isn't enough time after work, I've been staying up way too late. I can definitely see this getting in the way of my full time job. After putting so many hours into filming and editing, I just wanted to finally get the video out there. I now have so much respect for youtubers considering I now know how long it takes.  I don't know how people are so articulate in front of the camera as I can't seem to finish a sentence without pausing or repeating myself. I'm no expert at video editing. I know I tend to waffle on and there are a couple of places where it's way too obvious that I cut off the end of a word while editing. I did the best I can.

I decided to film a beauty favourites video because I've been intending to write a blog post on this for about six months now (never got around to it, worst blogger ever?!) . I'm also no expert on beauty.makeup products (I know so much more about clothes and shoes) so this is just some products that I've come to love in recent times. Let me know if you have any recommendations for videos you'd like me to film. I have a few ideas but I' definitely up for suggestions. Here are the products I featured in my video:

You look beautiful in the film!! Sadly I don't understand English that well to really follow it, but I like it anyway!

I don't think you paused or lacked confidence at all. You seemed v assured. I only watched about 4mins because it is 1am and I really need to go to sleep but I enjoyed what I saw. And hurrah for Kitten d'more dress!!! X

Red lipsticks are the best I totally agree! I feel like I wear red more then any color as well haha :)
Need to look for that red lipstick though sounds so good!
I have a few duller colors but I really enjoy brighter lipstick.

Just love the name of the nailpolish!! I just love getting all kinds of colors as well, even more so when I love the product. I hate nail polishes that chip off easy, annoys me haha :P

Ah yes I find powdered eye shadow can get pretty annoying, this one sounds lovely though!

This is such a great video, really enjoyed watching it :)

" I don't know how people are so articulate in front of the camera as I can't seem to finish a sentence without pausing or repeating myself."

Well first up, I've watched the video and there is a *disturbing* lack of umms and ahs. Maybe you edited them out as I can see a few cuts but if you didn't edit out a bunch of them, then let me be the first to tell you that you are born to be on camera.

What it takes is practice. I can say this as someone who used to audio bait the scammers and record the audio and also as someone who has worked in call centres long term - each time I would listen back to my calls, I heard things I wanted to cut out and it is a conscious effort to do it.

They say it takes 21 times to create a new habit, so stick with it and you'll get to where you want to be, plus, the editing etc will become easier the more you do it - and the more you do the videos the less editing they will require. :)

If you watch people speak on tv, eg politicians, some of them are very bad at speaking. I can name one very high profile politician who has an aaah tic. If you listen not to the words but for the aahs you'll know who I mean right away. That person starts nearly every single sentence with aah.

Now knowing what I know, I am aware that person could easily work on that tic and get rid of it if they wanted to. Which kind of leads one to wonder why they do not. If one needs to speak publicly and do interviews for a living, one would probably want to work on stuff like that.

So, my advice to you if you want to do more of these - spend some time with your camera, practicing. The footage will never make it to the web, but it will be a valuable learning goldmine for you. :)

You did really well editing the video! What a cute backdrop - in your cut scenes and in your main video! Is that your house? It's very pretty! :)

I find video editing soo time consuming and confusing too - so I take the lazy way out and don't edit the video! I keep it short too so if I mess up badly or forget what I was going to say...I just re-take it :) That's the lazy way of doing it, saves editing.

Hope you had fun doing the video though - you should be proud of it! Remember as it does take a lot of time you want it to be fun - so do what you can to enjoy the process, shooting and editing! :)

Oh and I always have umms and aaahs and a bit of waffling on my videos - I just try to remember not to do that in the next one I film - it doesn't have to be perfect to get your point across :) Good luck with all your future videos! :)

How cool like the products but to be honest love the Audrey Hepburn pillow on my right view, where did you get it girl? You did great of cause is nerve racking but is normal for first video until you feel comfortable in front of the camera but you did great I admire no fear going for it. Thumbs up and I follow

Aimeecakes said...

Fab video! You did a great job - I didn't see any of this waffling you mentioned in your post.

Some great products too - I'm also a big fan of the red lip. I like the Maybelline Color Tattoo eye shadows too, although I tend to use them as a base. If you're having trouble with pigmentation and getting your powder shadows to last you could maybe try a eyeshadow primer (I like the Too Faced and Smashbox ones).

And in terms of eyeliners I love the Maybelline Master Precise liner - Its got a fine felt tip which I find a lot easier to use than the liquid liners with a brush. :)

IMOGEN, YOU ARE ADORABLE! You are such a poised speaker, and for some reason I wasn't expecting an accent, silly me. But us Californians probably have a distinct way of talking to you too. I loved the unicorns at the end. Nel used to love them when she was little. You are so cute, my dear. Keep doing the utube videos, you are a doll.
